Privacy Policy — Zingo – Language Learning

This Privacy Policy explains how Zingo (“the App,” “we,” “us,” “our”), developed by Nilay Mehta, collects, uses, discloses, and protects your information when you use the App.

1. Information We Collect

  • Account Information: When you sign in with Google Sign-In, we collect your first and last name, email address, and profile photo.
  • Learning Data: Lesson progress, exercise results, XP, gems, hearts, streaks, completed units and concepts — stored in Firebase Firestore and synced across your devices.
  • Local Device Data: Some data (offline progress, cached lessons) is stored locally on your device.
  • Usage & Diagnostic Data: Basic usage and performance data via Firebase Analytics and Crashlytics (screens visited, session length, crash logs, device model, OS version).
  • Voice Data: For speech-recognition exercises, voice input is processed via the device’s speech recognition service to check pronunciation. Audio is not stored by us after the check completes.
  • Social/Leaderboard Data: If you use leaderboards, your display name, avatar, and progress may be visible to other users.

We do collect: your phone number, home address, location/GPS data, phonebook/contacts, or camera access. We do collect social media profile data (e.g., via Facebook/Twitter login), as Zingo only supports Google Sign-In.

2. Permissions We Request

  • Microphone — only for speech-recognition exercises, only while actively in use
  • Notifications — only if you enable practice reminders
  • Internet/Network access — required for sign-in and cloud sync

3. How We Use Your Information

  • To create and maintain your account and sync progress across devices
  • To power leaderboards, streaks, and achievements
  • To personalize lesson content and difficulty
  • To evaluate pronunciation via speech exercises
  • To monitor performance, diagnose crashes, and improve the App
  • To send optional practice reminders and important App updates

4. Advertising & Payments

Zingo does show third-party ads and does use remarketing services. Zingo does currently offer in-app purchases or paid subscriptions. If this changes in the future, this policy will be updated accordingly.

5. Third-Party Services

We do not use reCAPTCHA, Google Places, Mouseflow, FreshDesk, or similar third-party tools. We do not sell your personal information to any third party.

6. Data Storage & Security

Your data is stored securely on Google Firebase servers, with local caching on your device for offline use. We use industry-standard security measures, though no method of storage or transmission is 100% secure.

7. International Data Transfers

Your information may be processed on servers outside your country of residence, including the United States, as part of Google Firebase’s infrastructure.

8. Data Retention & Deletion

We retain your data as long as your account is active. Request deletion of your account and data anytime via mehta.nilay.b@gmail.com ; requests are processed within a reasonable timeframe.

9. Children’s Privacy (COPPA)

Zingo is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us so we can delete it.

10. Your Rights Under GDPR

If you are located in the European Economic Area, you have the right to access, correct, delete, or restrict processing of your personal data, and the right to data portability and to withdraw consent at any time. Our legal basis for processing is your consent (upon sign-in) and our legitimate interest in operating and improving the App. To exercise these rights, contact mehta.nilay.b@gmail.com .

11. Your Rights Under CCPA/CPRA (California Residents)

If you are a California resident, you have the right to know what personal information we collect, request deletion of your information, and opt out of the “sale” or “sharing” of personal information. We do not sell or share your personal information with third parties for cross-context behavioral advertising. To exercise these rights, contact mehta.nilay.b@gmail.com .

12. CalOPPA Compliance

In accordance with CalOPPA, we do not respond to “Do Not Track” browser signals at this time, and we do not knowingly allow third parties to collect personally identifiable information about your online activities over time and across the App.

13. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy periodically. Changes will be posted here with an updated “Last updated” date. Continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance.
